3 Tips for Brainstorming a New Client’s Marketing Plan

Creating a marketing plan for a new client or devising a new strategy for an existing client can be time-consuming, but it is essential.

Our outsource digital marketing services team shares three tips to help your agency brainstorm successfully and create compelling marketing plans.

Research Before You Rush

Before diving into brainstorming, take the time to thoroughly research your client’s business, industry, and competitors. Understanding their unique selling points, target audience, and market position will provide a solid foundation for your brainstorming session.

Conduct in-depth interviews with your client to gather insights about their business goals, challenges, and expectations. Analyze industry trends, market conditions, and competitor strategies to identify opportunities and threats.

You should also study the client’s customer base through surveys, social media analysis, and feedback to understand their needs and preferences.

Ask ‘What If?’

The “What If?” technique encourages out-of-the-box thinking by challenging assumptions and exploring possibilities.

Start by identifying existing assumptions about the client’s business and market, then ask, “What if these assumptions were not true?” This can reveal new angles and opportunities. You can also push the boundaries by considering extreme scenarios. For example, “What if the budget was unlimited?” or “What if the client could only market through one channel?”

Other good ‘What If?’ questions to ask include, “What if we could leverage AI?” or “What if the client’s industry underwent another type of major technological shift?”

Crazy 8s

This involves sketching eight different ideas in eight minutes, pushing participants to think rapidly and without overanalyzing.

Start by giving each team member a piece of paper divided into eight sections. Set a timer for eight minutes. Next, instruct participants to sketch one idea in each section, spending no more than one minute per idea.

After the eight minutes are up, have everyone share their sketches. Discuss the ideas, combining and refining them to form more developed concepts.

After brainstorming, hand over the project deliverables to our outsource digital marketing services team. We offer a wide range of white-label services that will allow you to focus on building winning strategies while we focus on implementation.
